WHERE WE ARE BASED:
Salford, Manchester – The Lowry Theatre – covering the entirety of the North West region including Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside, Lancashire and Cumbria.
The Lowry CAT is the North West Centre for pre-vocational training and delivers classes at key venues across the North West; the majority of training taking place at the renowned The Lowry Theatre in Salford Quays, with satellite classes taking place in Penrith, Cumbria.
AGE RANGE:
For young people aged between 11–18 years. Although students should be no more than 16 years of age when they join/ audition, once registered they can continue training until they are 18 years of age.
CURRICULUM:
The Lowry CAT is a part-time, pre-vocational course that gives young people from across the North West who have a passion for dance, access to high quality dance training tuition and creative opportunities outside of their academic studies.
The scheme supports each individual student to gain an important foundation in dance and provides them with the tools needed to reach their potential towards a sustainable and successful career in the profession.
The training curriculum consists of (but is not limited to):
- Dance Technical Training – A minimum of 9 hours of training per week in contemporary dance techniques, ballet techniques and creative / improvisation tools/ exploration.
- Supplementary Training – pilates, yoga, progressing ballet techniques, body conditioning, injury prevention and nutrition.
- Contextual Studies – watching professional work, reviewing/ discussion/ debate of artistic work, wider dance/ arts context, streams of consciousness writing etc
- Intensive Courses, Creative Opportunities & Performances – Opportunities to work with some of the best national and international companies that visit The Lowry every year. Previous companies have included Company Wayne McGregor, Akram Khan Company and Phoenix Dance Theatre.
- Goal Action Plan (GAP) – Each student will receive an booklet, which sets out the programme of training, study and related activities
- One-to-one tutorial mentoring in preparation for auditions for conservatoires and further education.

2. Boys Dance Audition – Workshop
We are inviting male-identifying students aged 11+ to take part in our free to attend audition-workshop. No prior experience in dance is needed and alongside the activity we will audition students to potentially offer places on our current Lowry Centre for Advanced Training cohort!The audition workshop will take place at Lowry on Saturday November 15th from 4 to 6 PM and is free of charge!The audition is for a male-identifying young person who would qualify for a grant but all male young people are welcome to take part in the workshop for the experience and to find out more in advance of our next auditions in Summer 2026.To apply fill out form click apply above and fill out the form.
